world ayrshire event averages $5,637
COLUMBUS, OH – Another
record crowd attended the 2007 World Ayrshire Event on October 3 during
the World Dairy Expo in Madison, WI. The 15 live animals sold in this
elite event averaged $5,637 while the four embryo lots averaged $2,844.
Topping the sale was Lot #1, Covey-P&A Cal Jewel-ET. Stillmore Cattle
Company of Pine Island, MN, had the final bid of $13,500. A winter calf,
“Jewel” is sired by Margot Calimero and out of the well-known
Covey-Farms Forever Jade, a 93 point Elite cow. Jade has records to 3-05
365D 31,380M 3.3% 1038F 2.9% 909P and was Reserve All-American in 2004 and
2005. The VG-86 granddam has several records over 20,000M. “Jewel” was
consigned by P&A Ayrshires and Covey Farms, Dyersville, IA.
Drafted from the show after
winning the summer yearling class, the second high-seller brought much
excitement as well. Topp-View Pandalaro Vibrant-ET sold to Douglas Evans
of Georgetown, NY, for $10,600. Sired by Yellow Briar Pandalaro,
“Vibrant” was consigned by Topp-View Farm, Botkins, OH.
Rounding out the top three
high sellers was a September Maple-Dell Soldier baby calf out of the 2007
World Dairy Expo Grand Champion, Family-Af-Ayr Cornelius Daisy. She was
purchased by the partnership of Mackayr Farm and Family-Af-Ayr Farm of
Princeton, IL, for $7,100. The dam is EX-93 and has records to 5-07 318D
20,770M 4.3% 894F 3.3% 684P. She has many national show titles and
All-American winnings in her resume. The next dam is EX-92 and has over
110,000M lifetime. She was consigned by Sarah Borchardt, Caledonia, IL.
A package of five embryos
sired by Lagace Modem-ET out of Stillmore Laro Isabella sold for $3,775.
The EX-91 dam has several years of All-American credits and the EX-90
granddam has records to 4-03 365D 27,750M 3.6% 997F 3.2% 878P. This embryo
package was consigned by Stillmore Cattle Company, Pine Island, MN, and
purchased by P&A Ayrshires, Dyersville, IA.
A
package of four embryos sold for $2800 from a pedigree with generations of
cows ranked on the Ayrshire Elite list. They are sired by Des Chamois
Poker-ET and out of Palmyra Romeo Rosy-ET, VG-89. She was nominated
All-American in 2006, has records to 2-03 341D 23,860M 4.2% 1013F 3.3%
784P and is the maternal sister to the Ramius bull at Select Sires. The
next dam is EX-90 with over 126,800M lifetime to date. The great-granddam
is EX-91, has sons in A.I. and records to 5-09 365D 38,930M 3.2% 1228 2.9%
1127P. The embryos were consigned by Palmyra Ayrshires, Hagerstown, MD,
and purchased by Ed Gill, Creston, OH, and Tom Wolf, Shreve, OH.
The

sale averages over $3,200
COLUMBUS, OH –
After anticipating the sale of the year for several months, Ayrshire
enthusiasts were not disappointed with the quality of consignments offered
at the National Ayrshire Convention Sale. Sponsored by the Illinois Ayrshire
Club and managed by Chairman Gregg Borchardt of Caledonia, IL, the sale was
held in Rockford, IL, on June 23, 2007. Auctioneer Lynn Lee of Smyrna, TN,
struck off 59 live consignments averaging $3,283.
After
successfully parading the tanbark in 2006 and winning the coveted
All-American Spring Calf award, it was no surprise to anyone that the
bidding was ferocious when this spring yearling hit the sale ring.
Oak-Valley’s Wilton Bobbi Sue topped the sale at $11,100. She was consigned
by Jeff, Lisa and Mary Holtz of Maquoketa, IA, and purchased by Ryan, Gwen
and Kailyn Clark of Toulon, IL. “Bobbi Sue” is sired by Labrie Wilton-ET.
The second high
seller at $10,000 was a Fall Calf sired by Lagace Sexapeal. Hall’s Jaye Sexy
Blackie comes from a long maternal line of high-producers and show winners.
The Very Good dam has records over 24,000M, and the Excellent granddam has
records over 21,000M. Several family members have All-Canadian and
All-American honors in their pedigrees. She was consigned by Gene Hall Jr.
of Cushing, OK, and purchased by Beverly Donovan of Chesterfield, MA.
Another highlight
of the sale came from the Moy-Ayr herd in Whitewater, WI. Moy-Ayr Laro
Lacey-ET, a Jr. 3-Year-Old sired by Des Chamois Pat Laro-ET, sold for $7,200
to the partnership of Kara Kelly and Rebecca and Emily Schmidt of Deerfield,
WI. “Lacey” attracted great attention in the sale as she is the daughter of
the 2006 World Dairy Expo Grand Champion, Moy-Ayr Bonoparte Licorice,
Excellent-92, who has also won five All-American titles. The granddam is
Excellent-90, winner of two All-American awards, and has records to 22,860M
at 8-00.
Scott Haynes of
Tully, NY, sent one of his best 4-Year-Olds to the sale. Sired by Rosayre BB
Marshall, Haynes-Farm Nikata brought $7,000 from the partnership of Steve
McDonald of Princeton, IL, and Family-Af-Ayr Farm of Caledonia, IL. Haynes
Farm is known for their deep cow families, and this consignment was no
exception. The dam has lifetime credits over 125,000M 4.0%F and 3.2%P, while
the granddam has lifetime totals over 111,000M 4.0%F and 3.3%P. The
pedigrees runs deep for many more generations.
Rounding out the
top five sellers was a Woodland View Pardner-ET Summer Yearling from the
same cow family as the Grand Champion of the 2006 Mid-Atlantic National Show
and Res. Grand Champion of the 2006 World Dairy Expo. Maple-Dell Zorro
Dafourth is an Excellent-94, Elite Cow with over 22,000M. Maple-Dell
Pardner’s Dallas-ET sold for $6,800 to the partnership of Steve McDonald,
Princeton, IL; Covey-Farms, Rose, OK; and P&A Ayrshires, Dyersville, IA. The
dam is Excellent-90 with over 27,000M 4.9%F and 3.2%P. “Dallas” was
consigned by David Patrick, Woodbine, MD.
In addition to
the live animals, 11 embryo lots sold averaging $520 per embryo. The
high-selling package at $825 per embryo was Lagace Modem-ET x Valevue BBK
Minerva, Excellent-94. “Minerva” has records to 30,926M 5.5% 1699F 3.3%
1019P at 3-01 in 319 days. She was the Grand Champion of the 2005 and 2006
World Dairy Expo shows and has received All-American honors four consecutive
years. This embryo package was consigned by Steve & Vicki Searles, Pine
Island, MN, and purchased by P&A Ayrshires, Dyersville, IA.
